To produce classic and contemporary Australian and international art, based in performance and new media with style, passion and world class artistic excellence in order to challenge, educate, enrich audiences in Melbourne.
History
Prior to our recent incorporation, and under the banner of Absurd Productions, the group of young, emerging organizers and artists behind PipeDream successfully produced the theatre production of Eugène Ionesco's The Bald Soprano at the Northcote Town Hall. On a tiny budget, this small production achieved several sell-out performances and was seen by nearly 400 people. Gaining good media attention with exposure in the The Age, Herald Sun, Beat Magazine, and 3RRR radio, The Bald Soprano garnered critical attention and was reviewed as an "excellent production" by online magazine AussieTheatre.com.
Directed by award-winning young director Paul Terrell and produced by Nic Halliwell at the end of his tenure as elected Arts Officer at Melbourne University and who also served as student council member of the university union, the production was resounding success. Members of the PipeDream board have been associated with the following events: Over the top (2006), Tastings (MU Guild Theatre - 2006), Framed - Melbourne University Photography Competition (2006), Above Water, an umbrella event of the 2006 Melbourne Writers Festival, Realm of Senses Film Festival (2007), Silence between the tracks (La Mama 2005), Showdown, an umbrella event of the 2005 MUDFest, The Threepenny Opera (MU Union Theatre - 2004).
Paul has previously directed the Witches of Eastwick (Trinity College MTS – 2006), Singin' in the Rain (Queen’s College MDS – 2005), Blank Slate (UHT Theatre– 2004), and for Absurd Productions, Fando & Lis (2006), The 24 Hour Theatre Experience (2005), Six on the Beach (2005), and Rhinoceros (2004).
